Job Summary

AECOM’s Environment team is actively seeking Senior Environmental Planners with experience in delivering infrastructure projects involving Federal Impact Assessments (IAs) (e.g. roads and highways, rail, power, etc.), as well as other Environmental Assessments (EAs) at the provincial and municipal levels. Experience is required in developing and executing engagement and consultation programs, coordinating environmental specialists, as well as identifying and assessing environmental features, constraints, alternatives, potential effects, mitigation measures and avoidance opportunities.

The candidate must be skilled at providing advice regarding environmental aspects, applicable legislation and guidelines, and policies, as well as documenting the project process.

We are seeking highly motivated and accountable candidates that work collaboratively with other team members and are effective communicators. Project management experience, organizational skills and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment are essential qualities.

As part of our team, the successful applicant will lead projects, environmental management work and deliverables throughout a project life cycle, including:

  • Leading projects/disciplines and working with Project Managers in executing Federal IAs and municipal and provincial EAs (planning, preliminary design, detail design, alternative delivery projects) as well as other approval and permitting activities for infrastructure projects.
  • Developing and implementing consultation programs, including public, municipal, regulatory agency and Indigenous Community engagement.
  • Liaising with clients by phone, email, writing and in-person.
  • Liaising with local, provincial, and Federal agencies regarding permits and approvals.
  • Collaborating with technical and professional staff across the company in completing assignments.
  • Coordinating, preparing for, attending, and documenting project meetings.
  • Coordinating and managing environmental specialists (i.e., fisheries, terrestrial, noise, air, archaeology, etc.) and planning support staff.
  • Being familiar with Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Navigation Protection Act, Environmental Protection Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • Researching, conceptualizing, planning, and writing drafts of reports related to planning, design and permitting.
  • Project management including initiation, planning, execution and closing.
  • Supporting business development efforts, including proposal writing and participation in industry associations.
  • Participating and contributing to AECOM’s Technical Practice Groups.
