An exciting opportunity has arisen in Airbus Filton for a Landing Gear Designer within the Landing Gear R&T department. In this role, the candidate would be responsible for Designing Landing Gear structures and equipment products. The candidate will be developing novel designs and architectures whilst using state-of-the-art materials and manufacturing techniques for the next generation of aircraft.
Reporting to the Head of Landing Gear Research & Technology and supporting Project and Technical Leaders to deliver R&T projects to Time, Cost and Quality. The candidate is also expected to seek, scope and drive new technological breakthroughs that can contribute and shape the future of Landing Gear systems and Aircraft.

What you will be doing:

Developing technologies and supporting the definition architectures to deliver an optimised Landing Gear solution for the next generation of aircraft.

Designing Landing Gear structures and equipment products and working with stress, performance, manufacturing, procurement, testing and after-market colleagues to produce and test them in order to validate development methods and tools.

Responsible for the technical output of projects and contributing to the technical direction.

Exploring the best of existing capabilities from around the business and outside of the company to maximize re-use of knowledge and to inspire new ways of doing things.

Technical steering of internal designer, sub-contract, suppliers and partners.
-
Responsible for the delivery of Engineering tasks and projects to quality, working with both the Technical and Project leaders to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Integration of the solutions within the Landing Gear System as well as other systems and structure of the Aircraft.

Liaise with the Landing Gear Systems, Equipment and Extended Enterprise Suppliers to deliver technical solutions.

Identify and work with new collaborators including non-industrial partners e.g. Research institutes and academia to seek, scope and deliver solutions.

Working in a multi-disciplinary team operating with Agile methodologies.

Adherence to Airbus Processes & Procedures with a continuous improvement mind-set.
About You:
You have…
-
Experience of the detailed development of metallic structures, mechanical systems or hydraulic equipment either on Airframe.
-
Landing Gear or Systems Equipment.
-
Worked closely with manufacturing to translate your designs into products and understand the key manufacturing processes, their limitations and the impact design decisions have on the product cost.
-
A high level of proficiency with Catia V5 or V6. Airbus Methods training is beneficial but not essential.

A delegation of Design Check and/or Design Approve or are on a path to delegation.
-
Knowledge of product structures, 2D/3D definition dossiers and configuration management.
-
Experience in defining requirements and setting technical direction.
