Job Description:

Border Force Intelligence Directorate focuses our effort on the highest harm and highest threat commodities and people in line with the Border Force Control Strategy. We seek to ensure our intelligence generates the highest impact possible by enabling interventions where they matter most, whether at the border, inland or upstream.
The BFID Director provides strategic leadership, setting the direction of the business and engaging with partners to deliver on shared outcomes. Under the Home Office Blueprint, BFID will merge with Immigration Intelligence to form a single intelligence directorate, Home Office Intelligence. The Director of BFID will need to lead staff through a period of change, building upon the transformation programme already well underway. It is likely that the role and responsibilities will change as a result of this merger.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Border Force Regional Commands and National Operations Head Quarters
  • Providing leadership to the Directorate, with the ability to take well-judged risks and to make decisions in a timely manner.
  • A Command of over 850 people deployed nationally and overseas.
  • Management and oversight responsibilities of a budget of over £45million. Delivering within this budget and seeking to exploit and promote efficiency savings where possible to ensure maximum Value for Money for the taxpayer.
  • Risk, Assurance and Governance oversight of all Directorate activities.
  • Contributing to wider Departmental delivery, policy making, programmes and development at the strategic and operational level.
  • Border Force Board members and the Border Force Senior Leadership Team
  • Delivering key intelligence requirements to support Border Force Operations in line with the BF Control Strategy. Leading engagement with key Border Force external stakeholders to build, maintain and enhance partnerships and intelligence and operational collaboration. Improving performance against key threats.
  • Partner organisations in Intelligence and Policing including National Crime Agency (NCA), Counter Terrorist Policing (CTP), NPCC (National Police Chiefs Council), and UK Intelligence Community (UKIC)
  • Taking an active role in delivery of the Borders and Enforcement capability strand of the Home Office blueprint and the shift to Home Office Intelligence as a single entity.

Job Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder skills, with the willingness and ability to maintain strong working relationships with a wide range of senior stakeholders across Government, maintaining support for a demanding agenda amidst other competing pressures.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and empower colleagues to deliver against a landscape of technical and organizational change.
  • Experience of working at senior level in an intelligence environment team or strongly intelligence-led environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in building a platform of capabilities and skills to drive improvements in gathering and exploiting information, intelligence and data to practical and strategic effect.
  • Ability to provide constructive challenge across a complex delivery landscape, comfortable setting the priorities for large and diverse teams, effectively managing risk and competing demands.
