Job Description:

This is an exciting and challenging time to be part of Large Business. The taxation of multinationals remains the focus of keen media and Parliamentary interest. We are in the process of implementing a package of measures to increase large business tax compliance and transparency, including the legislative changes flowing from the OECD-led base erosion and profit shifting agenda. In addition, we have recently rolled out a new enhanced approach to risk assessment. You will join one of the largest Civil Service departments and work in a fast paced and dynamic environment where they will support HMRC’s tax professionals in providing high quality services. This is an opportunity to build a strong and fulfilled career within HMRC.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Carry out quality compliance checks, establishing facts using an investigative approach and statutory powers. Develop technical arguments, working with Policy colleagues if required and reach resolution within HMRC’s published settlement strategy.
  • Assist, mentor, coach and develop trainees and colleagues within own team/work area.
  • Form and lead ad hoc teams set up to undertake specific projects.
  • Understand the commercial factors influencing a business’s tax compliance and build customer focus into projects and compliance checks undertaken.
  • Actively chip into the improvement of compliance strategy and process working with the Regime Lead and Tax Professional Managers.
  • Collaborate and engage with HRMC specialists and other agencies including preparing and communicating before Independent Tribunals where appropriate.
  • Respond to customer queries including non-statutory clearance requests, sharing good practice and information as appropriate.

Job Requirements:

  • Travel and overnight stays may be required across the UK.
  • Practical insight into how large businesses identify and address commercial and tax risks when preparing their accounts and tax computations.
  • Proven leadership in a technical environment and an interest in developing others.

Qualification & Experience:

  • It is essential that you are a tax professional, having recent experience of Direct tax technical work
  • Experience of working with businesses at a senior level in a Corporation Tax compliance environment.
