Job Description:

The purpose of the post will be to establish the incidence and prevalence of Deliberate Self Harm behaviour within Northern Ireland and determine the current level of service provision in response to this problem. The post holder will be required to collate data relating to presentations due to Deliberate Self Harm at the hospital Emergency Departments in the various locations across NI. This information will ultimately support clinical audit and lead to quality improvement in suicide prevention.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish a co-operative working relationship with the relevant hospital personnel highlighting the importance of recording accurately information relating to presentations due to self-harm.
  • Source and record required data for electronic transmission to the Northern Ireland Self-Harm Registry.
  • Process all relevant information pertaining to A&E admissions due to Self-harm in accordance with the Registry procedures.
  • Facilitate comparative audits between NI hospitals and on a cross border basis, to improve future outcomes.
  • Interrogate data relating to Self-harm from databases utilised by the hospital Emergency Departments (ED) in various HSC
  • Emergency Departments across NI, in accordance with the Northern Ireland’s Self-Harm Registry’s inclusion exclusion criteria.
  • Databases in HSC Emergency Departments include the ‘Symphony’, ‘NIRAES’ and ‘HostAccess / ADOS Navigator’.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions on Data Protection Legislation within the Belfast Trust, Public Health Agency, and any other areas the Regional Steering BHSCT JD / December 2021 Page 2 of 6
  • Assist the Public Health Agency and statisticians from The National Suicide Research Foundation with data analysis and reporting as required.
  • Strictly comply with the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act and associated computer related legislation and be aware of patient confidentiality.
  • Check the ED file and record the information contained.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Data protection and records management / GDPR.
  • Background knowledge of the Self Harm Registry and awareness of issues around Self Harm.
  • Conscientious and self-motivated with ability to work on own initiative.
  • Knowledge and experience of computer software packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Information systems.
  • Ability to work in partnership with staff from both a clinical and academic background.
  • Knowledge of information analysis to include extracting data from information systems, collating, manipulating, interpreting and disseminating information.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Degree or professional qualification and 1 years’ relevant experience to include data collation / data entry.
  • 3 years’ relevant experience to include at least 1 year of data collation / data entry.
