Joining the Royal Navy on the Accelerated Apprentice Scheme (Weapon Engineering) means accelerating your training and development within one of our most elite teams. You’ll be fast-tracked to real responsibility, getting your hands on some of the most advanced kit on the planet, and guaranteeing your warship’s performance as a state-of-the-art fighting machine. Unlike comparable civilian roles, you’ll quickly find yourself in charge of some of the most sophisticated electronic equipment in existence, as you join as a Probationary Leading Hand – two ranks higher than most Engineering Technicians.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Get your hands on some of the most sophisticated electronic equipment in existence, working with your team, and under the guidance of the Weapon Engineer Officer.
  • Maintain and operate complex communication, sensor and weapon systems, guaranteeing missiles, guns and anti-submarine torpedoes are fully operational.
  • Complete daily rounds, checking equipment to ensure the ship remains operational, and finding innovative solutions when there’s a problem.
  • Take responsibility for the safety of your crewmates, whether that’s identifying a potential threat, or ensuring your ship can defend itself.

Job Requirements:

  • A real sense of adventure, with a high level of physical and mental fitness
  • A problem-solver who can work well as part of a team
  • Enthusiasm for fixing and maintaining electronic and mechanical systems
  • A National of the United Kingdom, a Commonwealth citizen or Dual National
  • You need to be aged 17 to 25
  • Pass the Naval Swimming Test
  • A quick thinker, with a passion for working with the latest equipment and technology

Qualification & Experience:

  • An Advanced Apprenticeship (level 3) in Engineering Manufacturing
  • A minimum of three GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4 or above, including English Language, Mathematics and at least one science
