Our winter shelters

Glass Door has been providing winter shelters since its inception in 1999 in various London boroughs. Thousands of men and women have found safe shelter and the support needed to leave homelessness behind. Every winter, we work closely with identified churches in these boroughs who provide their church halls that allow us to set up a sleeping area nightly for our guests. We provide basic sleeping bags and mats and offer a hot evening meal that is provided by the church and Glass Door volunteers. Our guests will leave in the morning after a hot breakfast and we then close the shelter, removing all equipment ready for setting up in the evening.

During the pandemic we were unable to open our winter shelters and continued to support our guests by providing temporary accommodation within a hostel where our guests could safely stay in individual rooms and had access to food and support to move beyond homelessness.

After a two years absence, our shelters are reopening from 5th December 2022 and will operate from a different venue, every night of the week. We will have three shelters operating nightly in the boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham and Wandsworth. The shelters accommodate around 25 guests each night.
